🌊 First Impressions of the Amavi Made for Two Hotel

My first room was on the top floor, with a gorgeous sea view a bath that overlooked the Mediterranean through a glass wall. The view from the top floor is truly breathtaking and i’d recommend requesting a room on this floor. Unfortunately, I’m a really light sleeper (I mean crazy light), and the hum of a nearby vent drove me slightly feral.

Thankfully, the staff were super accommodating with my diva demands. They moved me down to the first floor without fuss (they even let me look at the room first before agreeing to switch) and I can confirm It was totally silent and I slept like a baby. The new room was just as beautiful with the same spacious layout, comfy bed, and dreamy bath — and I still had the most stunning sea view. The top floor view was slightly better, but peace and sleep won. And when i say slightly, I mean ever-so-slightly.

🥞 Gluten-Free Breakfast: 7.5/10

Breakfast was the highlight of my half-board experience as a coeliac. Here’s what was coeliac-safe and available every morning at the Amavi Made for Two Hotel buffet:

  • Freshly made gluten-free pancakes
  • Custom omelettes (just let them know you’re coeliac)
  • A wide selection of fruits and yoghurt
  • Teas and coffees (though not a huge variety of specialty milks and drinks)
  • Bacon, grilled halloumi, and other buffet items that were clearly marked or confirmed safe by staff

My reason for only the 7.5 is because they didn’t have separate gluten-free cereal or pastries, but I was so impressed by the pancakes and the helpfulness of the staff, it didn’t feel like I was missing out. My go to breakfast is avocado, bacon and scrambled eggs which they were happy to make me. I also tried the gluten-free pancakes which were lovely but points deducted for them bringing my toppings out as a side dish when everyone else had perfectly plated pancakes and topping.

There were more than enough options for me to be perfectly happy but when comparing it to other stays where I’ve been given pastries or the hotel has ordered in speciality items for me, this felt like the bare minimum I would expect from a 5 star half-board experience.

Where did it lose points?

  • Lazy Pancakes (why not make the effort to make mine just as lovely as everyone else’s with a proper topping).
  • Lack of speciality hot drinks and bad quality coconut milk.
  • No offer of any specialty provisions like pastries or sweet treats.

🍝 Dinner Buffets: 6.5/10 (Mixed Feelings)

Every night the dinner buffet follows a different theme and while we were there we had Italian, Indian, and French. While the concept is lovely, I had mixed feelings about the gluten-free offering.

Positives:

  • The chef personally walked me around the buffet each evening and explained what I could and couldn’t eat — major points for that level of care.
  • There were usually plenty of savoury options I could safely enjoy. Offers were made to cook a few items separately on the grill which was appreciated.
  • I wasn’t massively impressed with the free wine list or the paid wine list.

Negatives:

  • Desserts were disappointing. Each night, I was only offered a gluten-free chocolate mousse, while the rest of the buffet sparkled with elaborate cakes, pastries, and tarts. This felt really low effort.
  • On Italian night, there was no gluten-free pizza or pasta available. For a luxury hotel offering half-board at a premium price, I expected more flexibility — even something basic like gluten-free penne or an oven baked pizza would have made a big difference.
  • The food was good but it wasn’t unreal. I wasn’t particularly fussed to go up for seconds despite trying a bit of everything that was gluten-free. If you’re a real foodie who prefers quality over quantity you’re probably going be underwhelmed.
  • Indian night was the most disappointing. Only two curries I could have and the rest I couldn’t. It felt really slim pickings that evening which was sad as indian food in the UK is usually one of my go-to’s for choice. I’m not sure why they couldn’t make it more gluten-free friendly. That said there were other options available like some grilled meats but having had this the day before I was hoping for something different.

So, final thoughts on the food:

If you’re more of a veggie eater or a carb person, I think the Dinner buffet will leave you feeling underwhelmed. Vegetable, gluten-free dishes weren’t great. If you love meat and big portions, you’ll be happy with the unlimited grilled meat on offer. My partner is gluten-free and I genuinely think he’d be far happier with the offerings than I was so it depends what you value. For me, more carb and vegetable dishes would have been appreciated.

Breakfast was great, a really good experience and the pancakes and fresh food was a nice touch. I appreciated that they made me my go-to breakfast. And there were plenty of fruit and yoghurt options on the buffet.

I would skip the half board next time and book bed and breakfast only, then explore local restaurants for dinner — or at least check if the hotel has improved their gluten-free dinner and dessert offering first. I am genuinely very surprised by the lack of ability to even make a pasta for Italian night which wouldn’t of been hard to do. They ask you for your food allergies when you check-in so you’d think knowing they had a guest who was coeliac, that they would order in extra provisions. I don’t expect this at every hotel but I do when I’m paying £800 a night and I don’t think it’s unfair to expect a little more than the bare minimum.

🛏️ Romance in Every Detail

This hotel really leans into the Made for Two theme:

  • Sun loungers come in pairs, reserved for you throughout your stay.
  • The pool was incredible.
  • A few good gluten-free lunch options at the pool bar (though this isn’t included in the half-board)
  • Turndown service includes romantic notes and chocolates.
  • The glass walled baths with sea views? Utterly dreamy.
  • Sunset walks along the beach are peppered with friendly cats that come out at dusk (a highlight I wasn’t expecting but fully adored).
  • Evening events like free bubbly on the terrace add a touch of magic to your stay.

💆‍♀️ Spa, Pools & Wellness Vibes

There’s a lovely indoor pool and spa area, with a sauna and treatments available for an extra cost. The outdoor pool area is stunning — sleek sunbeds, great service, and panoramic views of the sea.

If you’re someone who loves a good GRWM moment, you’ll appreciate the lighting in the bathrooms. I always check this for makeup purposes, and the Amavi passed the test — bright, flattering, and ideal for filming or getting glam.

👩‍🍳 Final Thoughts: Would I Stay Again as a Coeliac?

Yes — but I’d tweak the package.

The Amavi Made for Two is a gorgeous, romantic hotel perfect for couples who want some peace and luxury. The pool area really is the star of the show.

The gluten-free breakfast was very good, the rooms were a dream, and the staff were incredibly helpful, especially when it came to food safety and my room switch.

However, the dinner buffet could be improved for coeliac guests. A little more variety (especially in desserts!) and the ability to make a simple gluten-free pasta or pizza would go a long way.

My tip? Book with breakfast included, enjoy the morning pancakes and omelettes, and explore the local restaurants for dinner instead.
