Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in Larnaca

Zephyros

If you’re a seafood lover, Zephyros is the place to be. It’s a local favourite down by the marina, with simple, delicious fish dishes served fresh from the sea. While there’s no dedicated gluten-free menu they do list allergens and grilled fish, fresh salads, and sides like grilled halloumi are all safe bets. Just let them know you’re coeliac – they’re used to tourists with dietary needs and were happy to prepare everything safely when I visited.

Vlachos

Another standout for grilled fish and traditional Cypriot fare, Vlachos is less touristy than Zephyros but equally delicious. Most of the menu is naturally gluten-free: think grilled meats, dips (ask for veggies instead of pita), and clean, honest flavours. It’s a locals spot and one me and my family regularly frequent. They do the BEST stuffed vines (usually my go-to) which I have with chips and salad.

Shiftorous

This spot is a hidden gem in the backstreets with no menu and few items on offer but it’s where locals go for souvlaki, sheftalia, and traditional grilled meats. Gluten-free eaters can enjoy skewered meat, grilled halloumi, and salad – just avoid the pita and ask them to cook everything separately. The flavours are incredible, and the prices are some of the best in Larnaca. The star of the show is the Kleftico from here – slow cooked lamb in the oven with potatoes and salad (my personal favourite and frequent go-to).

Hobos Steak House

Don’t be fooled by the touristy name! Hobos is actually a great gluten-free-friendly steakhouse. Their menu is huge, but the staff are well-informed, and the grilled meats, fish, and salads are all safe if you flag you’re coeliac. I had the mashed potatoes which were delicious!

Ocean Basket

A popular chain across Cyprus, Ocean Basket has an impressive seafood platter menu. They’re not coeliac-certified, but I’ve had success here by ordering grilled options and avoiding sauces or breaded items. The grilled prawns and chips or sushi is usually my go-to. Just double-check with your server every time (and if you can, bring your own soy sauce – you can get this from the alpha mega supermarket!).

Maqam Al-Sultan Restaurant

A fantastic Lebanese restaurant right on Finikoudes strip that does the fluffiest rice, grilled meats, and fresh salads with lots of gluten-free options. The hummus is a dream—just ask for cucumber slices or extra lettuce instead of flatbread.

The Meeting Pub

Perfect for a casual drink and a filling meal, Meeting Pub offers pub classics. While it’s not the most gluten-free-forward menu, they do grilled meats, jacket potatoes, and some salads that can easily be made coeliac-safe. It’s more of a vibes spot than a gourmet one but sometimes that’s all you need. They do a good breakfast too and are happy to modify. I usually go for the beans, bacon, halloumi and eggs. It’s a beachfront restaurant and the views are 10/10.

Marzano

Marzano is an Italian restaurant in Larnaca that takes gluten-free and coeliac disease very seriously. It offers gluten-free pasta—and it’s actually decent! They take care with allergens and will cook everything separately if you mention you’re coeliac. A good option when you need a change from grilled meat and fish (aka every Cypriot menu ever).

Edem’s Yard

This stylish garden café is a Larnaca gem—think boho brunch vibes meets Mediterranean flair. While the menu isn’t fully gluten-free, they do offer gluten-free bread and are really accommodating with ingredient swaps. Great for brunch-y plates like eggs, avo, and salads, and perfect for a laid-back breakfast or light lunch under the trees. Always double-check prep, but they’re friendly and happy to help.

Mingle Café

Mingle is a modern, minimal café with a focus on clean eating and Insta-worthy dishes. They offer several gluten-free options clearly marked on the menu—from smoothie bowls to egg dishes—and even do GF pancakes (hallelujah). Staff are clued-up on allergens, and it’s one of the few spots in Larnaca that feels genuinely coeliac-aware. A must-visit for a healthy, satisfying brunch!

Gluten-Free Larnaca: Which Supermarkets have the best gluten-free products?

Alpha Mega

Alpha Mega wins this category hands-down. Their gluten-free section is massive by Cyprus standards, with international brands like Schär, gluten-free pasta, bread, snacks, and even pre-made desserts. If you’re self-catering or just need a snack to take to the beach, this is your one-stop shop.

Metro Supermarket

I was pleasantly surprised with Metro Supermarket in Larnaca. They had quite a few gluten-free items. It is slightly cheaper than Alpha Mega although the gluten-free goods in both supermarkets are quite expensive.

I always bring my own snacks for things like boat trips and day excursions — like this Cape Greko half-day cruise, which is stunning but doesn’t have food.

Top Tip: Bring pasta and bread with you from home to save on costs. Where Cyprus is a small island the cost of goods to have these specialist food items imported means the price is higher than other mainland European countries.

Where to Hire a Car in Larnaca

While Larnaca has some public transport, Cyprus is definitely a driving kind of place, especially if you want to explore beyond the beachfront. From ancient ruins to hidden tavernas, having a car gives you the freedom to roam at your own pace (and always be within reach of gluten-free snacks you’ve stashed in the glove box — we’ve all been there).

👉 I recommend hiring a car from Aercar, a company I have used several times and never had any problem with as a solo female traveller. They’ll pick you up from Larnaca Airport and take you straight to your car! I always book via Booking.com Car Rentals — it’s easy, reliable, and you can compare prices across rental companies. Perfect if you’re arriving late or heading off early to explore the island.

🙋‍♀️ FAQs: Gluten-Free Travel in Larnaca, Cyprus

Is Cyprus good for gluten-free and coeliac travellers?

Yes! While Cyprus doesn’t have loads of dedicated gluten-free restaurants, much of the traditional cuisine is naturally coeliac-friendly. Grilled meats, fresh fish, rice, and salads are staples, making it easier to eat safely. Just be sure to communicate your needs clearly—most servers are familiar with dietary restrictions due to the number of tourists. Admittedly though, sometimes they don’t know what gluten is but if you explain you are allergic to flour (Alevri) and bread (Psomi) that is usually enough to ensure you’re safe.

Just be sure to avoid cous cous but most greek food is naturally gluten-free with the exception of bread and anything battered in breadcrumbs. From what i’ve experienced, the fries are usually fried separately in most restaurants and made from fresh greek potatoes but best to double check they don’t share fryers.

Is Larnaca coeliac safe?

Larnaca isn’t overflowing with gluten-free-only restaurants, but it’s very doable as a coeliac with a bit of planning. Many spots offer naturally gluten-free meals, and some cafés and chains even offer gluten-free pasta or bread. I’ve personally eaten safely at every place on this list as a coeliac.

Do restaurants in Larnaca understand what gluten-free means?

Some do, especially more tourist-friendly spots or international chains. For smaller, local tavernas, it helps to bring a translated coeliac restaurant card in Greek and be specific (e.g. “no flour, no breadcrumbs, no soy sauce”). Always ask about cross-contamination and fryers.

Can I find gluten-free bread and snacks in Larnaca?

Yes! Head to supermarkets like Alpha Mega or Metro, both of which have dedicated gluten-free sections. You’ll find Schär products, gluten-free pasta, crackers, snacks, and even desserts. Prices can be steep, so I recommend packing some essentials from home.

Should I bring gluten-free food with me to Cyprus?

If you’re coeliac or sensitive to cross-contamination, I highly recommend packing:

  • GF bread or wraps
  • Cereal or oats
  • Snack bars
  • A portable toaster bag (for hotel breakfasts)
You can find items locally, but availability and pricing can vary.

Is it safe to eat chips (fries) in Cyprus?

Ask about the fryer. Many places use a shared fryer for breaded items, which means the chips may not be safe for coeliacs. Some restaurants (like Hobos) were able to offer chips from a separate fryer—but always check!

Final Thoughts on Eating Gluten-Free in Larnaca

Larnaca might not have dedicated gluten-free restaurants on every corner, but with a bit of planning and a few key Greek phrases, you can eat like a queen. I’ve eaten at all of these places as a coeliac and walked away happy and healthy.
