The List of Gluten-Free Friendly UK Chain Restaurants:
- Pizza Express (Coeliac UK Certified) – One of the most superior UK chain restaurants with gluten-free options, offering dough balls to pastas and pizzas, plenty of side dishes – the menu choice and variety is huge!
- Nando’s – Though not explicitly marked as gluten free there’s a huge variety of gluten-free items, including chicken and sides. Chips, coleslaw and side salad are all safe. The mash potato is a may contain so it depends on your stance on this. They have an allergy book at the counter that’s very clear on what you can and can’t have. They will also wipe down the grill for you if you let them know your coeliac.
- Wagamama – one of my least favourite chains but worth mentioning as there are a few gluten free options but menu items are limited. There’s 1 or 2 curry’s and the pad Thai but not much else. They can adapt dishes but I feel like the flavours just aren’t there when they do this. I’ve never been sick from a meal here though so it gets the reluctant stamp of approval.
- Zizzi (Coeliac UK Certified) – Gluten-free pizza and pasta options, plenty of choice, I do prefer pizza express if I’d have to pick though they are similar in offerings.
- Bella Italia – a great option and one of the better UK chain restaurants with Gluten-free options, you can find pizza, pasta, and risottos. I’ve always had a good meal here.
- Frankie & Benny’s – Gluten-free pasta, burgers, and desserts. Quite a few menu options.
- TGI Friday’s – Gluten-free burgers, salads, and select appetizers. Quite a few options. I would say Frankie and Bennys and TGI’s are basically on par with eachother but TGI’s do better cocktails.
- Chiquito – Mexican-inspired options like tacos and fajitas. I haven’t been for years so can’t comment on quality but when I looked online there seemed to be a few things we could have but it did look a bit limited If you don’t like fajitas!
- Carluccio’s – Gluten-free pasta, risottos, and desserts. I only ate here once but the food was good. One thing I noticed is, it used to be coeliac UK certified but it no longer shows this on the coeliac uk website. However, their gluten free menu is huge and they also have gluten free breakfast options, there’s lots of variety and the loss of status may be to do with Carluccio’s not wanting to pay the fee to coeliac UK (which is quite hefty) rather than it no longer being safe, but please ask questions and double check for your own safety.
- Ed’s Easy Diner – Gluten-free burgers with dedicated fryers for fries and gluten-free buns. There’s also wings and halloumi fries listed as gluten free on their menu.
- Lina Stores – I had a delisciois meal here – one of the unique things was the spaghetti tasted fresh and wasn’t the usual deal you get when ordering gluten free pasta, it didn’t feel shop bought. They had a lot of gluten free options both for starters and mains. Menu highlights included beef carpaccio and the arancini balls.
- Handmade Burger Co. – Gluten-free buns and dedicated prep areas. I ate here once and enjoyed.
- Pho – Vietnamese cuisine with gluten-free noodle soups, a lot of the menu is gluten free here. I love the rice paper roll starters with the satay sauce – delicious!
- Harvester *BEWARE*– I am only including this because it’s a popular destination with families and if you really need to eat here then there are some gluten-free options but the choice is poor and I’d prefer never have to eat here again. Last time I came I ended up having a plate of mash potato, baked beans and a piece of dry chicken breast because there was nothing else they could offer me. The salad bar has quite a few gluten free options but it is a coeliac’s worst nightmare, the cross contamination risk is HIGH so eat at your own risk. I did check their menu for the purpose of this post and I can’t really see one single full meal that’s available – just a bunch of sides, some rotisserie chicken and nachos.
- Beefeater – they have an actual gluten free menu unlike harvester. They have gluten free burger buns, steaks, chicken melts and decent sides like loaded cheesy fries, nachos and potato dippers. Approved!
- Yo! Sushi – Gluten-free sushi with gluten-free soy sauce available. A little tricky with the conveyer belt but you can request specific dishes you know are gluten free.
- Leon – Leon is one of the best UK chain restaurants with gluten-free options. A top tier gluten free establishment when on the go – the rice boxes are delicious but the chicken nuggets are the star of the show especially the hot honey variety. Waffle fries and the breakfast pots are also 10/10. They do a veggie and meat full English breakfast too.
- The Real Greek – Gluten-free grilled meats, salads, and dips with quite a lot of gluten free options. I was underwhelmed when I ate here as a Greek Cypriot who knows what Greek food should really taste like so it’s hard for me to comment on taste but there are plenty of gf options with good flavours that will hit the spot for a Mediterranean food craving.
- Prezzo – (Coeliac UK Accredited). You can be sure you’re safe here. Gluten-free pizza and pasta with strict allergen protocols. Lots of choice.
- Las Iguanas – a great place to go for a bottomless brunch. The cocktails are superb. Latin-inspired menu with gluten-free marked items and quite a few choices.
- Giraffe – I’ve only ever eaten the gluten free breakfast from here in Heathrow T5 but it’s pretty good. I believe on their main menu they have gluten-free burgers and international salads. They seem to be quite accommodating.
- Wasabi – Limited gluten-free options, but some sushi and salads are suitable.
- Côte Brasserie (Coeliac UK Certified) – French-inspired dishes with a very extensive gluten-free menu. I love the chicken salad from here but there’s other British classics you can have like shepherds pie. They do an excellent champagne breakfast too. I like Cote a lot, it’s an A+ from me!
- ASK Italian – Gluten-free pizza and pasta. I’ve not eaten here since being gluten free but there seems to be a decent array of menu items.
- Brewers Fayre – Gluten-free mains and side dishes.
- Byron Burger – Gluten-free buns with separate prep areas for fries.
- Five Guys – Gluten-free burgers (no bun) and fries cooked separately. Five guys mayo is also gluten free. They offer burgers in a tray or a lettuce wrap. Ask them to change gloves before preparing for you. Cajun seasoning is also safe.
- Sizzling Pubs – Gluten-free roast dinners, steaks, and burgers.
- Toby Carvery – Gluten-free meats and selected sides. A lot of the carvery is gluten free but I have to be honest, this is one of my least favourite roasts – it’s no fun when you can’t have the Yorkshire puddings or cauliflower cheese and the gluten free gravy is watery and tasteless. If you’re happy with just meat, potatoes and veggies then fine but don’t expect any additional trimmings!
- Slug & Lettuce – Gluten-free burgers, salads, and more.
- Bill’s (Coeliac UK Accredited) – Offers gluten-free breakfasts, salads, and mains. I keep hearing about the bottomless pancakes they’re currently offering which are gluten free and sound amazing. I’ve had many great meals at bills and they have excellent gluten free options. You can always count on a Coeliac accredited restaurant and bills is no exception with their strict cross contamination protocols.
- Hickories – lots of gluten free options here from pulled pork to steaks and yummy sides!
- Loungers (e.g., Cosy Club) – Gluten-free brunches, mains, and desserts.
- Bistrot Pierre – Gluten-free mains, sides, and desserts.
- Honest Burgers – Gluten-free buns and sides with dedicated fryers for fries. Though not an entirely gluten-free restaurant, most of the menu is gluten-free and they do chicken strips and onions rings. Their gravy is 10/10 too.
- Miller & Carter – A little more upmarket, Miller & Carter Steakhouses have a gluten free menu with plenty of options including steaks, sides and desserts.
- Brewhouse & Kitchen – Gluten-free options like burgers and salads (check beer offerings for gluten status).
- Turtle Bay – Caribbean dishes such as jerk chicken and curried goat. They also have great cocktails!
- All Bar One – Gluten-free fish and chips, steaks, and more (confirm separate fryer use).
- itsu – Fresh sushi with gluten-free soy sauce available on request. Quite a few different sushi options and the miso soup is gluten-free.
- Busaba – Thai-inspired dishes with gluten-free choices. Slightly limited menu but still a few different options that are safe for coeliacs.
- Dishoom – the chai latte and masala beans are a must! Plenty of Indian dishes with gluten-free options. Great for breakfast and brunch.
- Banana Tree – Pan-Asian gluten-free dishes.
- Chipotle – Mexican-style bowls with gluten-free ingredients. Tell the manager you’re coeliac and they’ll prepare your bowl for you themselves and use ingredients from the back to minimize cross contamination.
- Tossed – Healthy food with gluten-free salads and wraps.
- Abokado – Sushi and salads with gluten-free options.
- The Alchemist – Creative dishes with gluten-free adaptations. A great place for brunch.
- The Ivy Brasserie – Gluten-free options available, though flavor may vary.
- Coppa Club – Gluten-free items marked (e.g., Devon Crab Linguine, Lamb Rump).
- Jamie’s Italian – Some gluten-free options, though quality may vary.
- McDonald’s – In the UK there are no specific gluten free options however the burger patties (when ordering without a bun), veggie dippers and fries are gluten-free and cooked separately. I would always double check if you’re sensitive as different branches may vary with their frying methods. Some of the McFlurry flavours are gluten-free too. For breakfast you can eat the sausage, egg and bacon McMuffin’s without the muffin and the hash browns are also gluten-free.
- Wetherspoons – Check for available gluten-free options directly. They used to have a gluten-free menu but they took this away a few years ago. Despite this many of their menu items have remained unchanged and so they still have gluten-free dishes – you just have to ask at the bar when ordering.
- Joe and the Juice – Gluten-free bread available for sandwiches. As a sensitive coeliac I have eaten here twice and have been fine – both times I asked them if they could wipe surfaces and change gloves but beware there is quite a high risk of cross-contamination especially if you’re visiting when they are busy. Though I was okay, I would proceed with caution and assess the safety yourself as it does feel high risk.
- Chef & Brewer Pubs – Great gluten-free menus.
- Wahacca – a really form option for Mexican cuisine. A lot of the menu can be made gluten free.
- Smoky Boys – A small emerging chain, you can find these in west London. They have plenty of gluten free sides and gluten free burger buns for all their burgers. The meat is also halal.
- Hard Rock Cafe – a solid choice in any country, Hard Rock Cafe UK has plenty of gluten-free options including an entire menu to choose from.
- Dominoes Takeaway – dominoes is a great choice for takeaway pizza with many of the pizzas being available in a gluten free base.
- Pizza Hut Restaurants (Coeliac UK Certified) – another pizza chain with both dine in and takeaway options, Pizza Hut offers gluten free bases for most of their pizzas plus sides – the nachos are a fan favorite.
- Browns (Coeliac UK Certified) – Browns is Coeliac UK-accredited, meaning their gluten-free options are safely prepared with cross-contamination protocols in place. The menu is clearly marked and includes options like risottos, grilled meats, and indulgent desserts. You can dine here with confidence.
- Flat Iron – a steak-focused chain with limited gluten-free options, but coeliacs should approach with caution. While the steak itself is gluten-free, sides and sauces may contain gluten or risk cross-contamination. Always speak to your server for the most up-to-date allergen info.
- Rosa’s Thai – Rosa’s Thai has a great allergen matrix and many gluten-free dishes, such as curries, stir fries, and rice-based meals. However, they are not Coeliac UK-certified, and cross-contamination may occur in busy kitchens, so it’s best to call ahead and inform the staff clearly.
- Giggling Squid – Giggling Squid offers a dedicated gluten-free menu with plenty of naturally gluten-free Thai dishes like curries, salads, and pad Thai. While not certified by Coeliac UK, they are familiar with gluten-free needs and have strong allergen procedures—many coeliacs have had safe experiences here.
- Franco Manca – Franco Manca offers a gluten-free pizza base, but coeliacs should be cautious. Although they try to accommodate gluten-free diets, the open kitchen environment means there’s a high risk of flour contamination. Not recommended for those highly sensitive to gluten.
- Pizza Pilgrams – Pizza Pilgrims now offer gluten-free bases at select locations, but like Franco Manca, they use traditional pizza ovens and flour-heavy kitchens, making it risky for coeliacs. Not suitable for those with coeliac disease due to the risk of cross-contact.
