Los Mochis Notting Hill, London: My Favourite Gluten-Free Restaurant for Mexican-Japanese Fusion

If you’re searching for a memorable gluten-free dining experience in London, Los Mochis in Notting Hill is a must-visit. Combining Japanese flavors with Mexican flair, this vibrant spot is one of the few places offering a fully gluten-free menu that’s safe for coeliacs. From battered squid to spiced cocktails, Los Mochis delivers a dining experience that feels both unique and indulgent.

A Trendy, Quirky Atmosphere

Stepping into Los Mochis, you’re greeted by a trendy yet quirky interior—think modern décor with eclectic touches, like a shrine to Yoda himself. And trust me, after a few of their spicy margaritas, you may feel one with the Force and find yourself worshiping at the altar of a truly excellent meal.

The Dishes: Gluten-Free Heaven

Chipotle Calamari: Kicking off the meal with calamari was a dream come true. Lightly battered and served with a rich mayo sauce, this dish hit the spot for someone who rarely finds safe, gluten-free battered items. Calamari is a food I’ve missed dearly since going gluten-free, and this did not disappoint—it was crispy, flavorful, and worth every bite.

Spicy Salmon on Crispy Rice: Next came a creative twist— deep-fried rice blocks, topped with fresh, raw salmon. Each bite had a perfect contrast of crunchy rice and silky salmon. Rich and vibrant in flavor, this dish was something I’d come back for again and again.

Maki Rolls: We ordered a mix of sushi, and every piece was flawless. From Shrimp Tempura (my personal favorite) to the California and Tuna Asparagus rolls, the flavours were unmatched. It was such a treat to have tempura and other battered options, all gluten-free and especially gluten free soya sauce which isn’t always available at other sushi restaurants.

Octopus Anticucho: Super soft and meaty, the octopus tacos were beautifully cooked and packed with flavour. If you’re a taco lover, don’t miss these!

Matcha Cake with Coconut: For dessert, the matcha cake with coconut stole the show. Rich, moist, and perfectly balanced with a delicate matcha flavor, it’s a dessert that even non-matcha fans will love. Paired with my cappuccino, it was the ideal end to an incredible meal. My friend ordered a matcha latte which frankly was probably the best matcha latte I’ve ever tried.

Drinks: Cocktails That Hit All the Right Notes

Los Mochis’ cocktail menu deserves its own spotlight. We started with Bloody Marys, and let me tell you, these were some of the best I’ve had. It’s rare to find a gluten-free Bloody Mary due to Worcestershire sauce, but Los Mochis makes a fantastic, spiced version that’s safe for coeliacs. After that, I had a spicy margarita—zesty, fresh, and with the right amount of kick. My friend tried a passionfruit cocktail, and her verdict? It was better than her usual go-to, the Porn Star Martini.

Service and Pricing

Service was impeccable from start to finish. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable about dietary needs, triple checked if we had any other allergies, and offered excellent recommendations. It’s worth noting that Los Mochis leans on the pricier side, but for the quality and creativity of dishes, it’s worth the splurge. They do offer a brunch option which is far cheaper than the a la carte but I personally prefer small plates to share rather than one main meal – that way I get to try a bit of everything!

Final Thoughts

Los Mochis isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a haven for gluten-free foodies who crave something different. With an imaginative Mexican-Japanese menu, fabulous drinks, and a quirky setting, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a luxe gluten-free meal.
